web authoring

I intend to use a web page for displaying student work and keeping parents informed about what we do each month in the art classroom. I have also found some cool museum sites with interactive games that I would include for enrichment art activities. I would also like to keep power points web based for easier access and create some fun web quests. It would be interesting to use photo story as an introduction to the web page as well.

There are limitless ways to use diagrams, maps, and webs in the classroom. I have seen webs used to generate ideas for pre-writing. Outlines could be used to help students understand art textbook layouts and chapter contents. I have used inspiration to create a web map for analyzing artwork. Students could create their own diagrams maps and webs in powerpoint presentations for displaying information for oral reports. There is no end for what diagrams, maps and webs can be used for.

Reflection about ways to integrate digital images

I was relieved when this chapter came up. Digital images are a necessity in my classroom. Most often, digital imaging is used for student portfolios at the high school level. I have also used digital images as a source of subject matter for various projects. One of my favorite lessons uses manipulated images with basic software for self portraits in printmaking. Digital images are great teaching tool as well, used as motivation for teaching art concepts. The immediate access to art online has completely replaced the use of a slide projector and limits the necessity of carrying around large prints.

TTCR: 3

www.inspiration.com- grades 6-12. This tells all about what inspiration can do, such as Visual mapping, outlining, making presentations. I've used inspiration before. It is a fun program for kids and adults once you get familiar with the tools.

Wacky web tales: this is an interactive story building site. Seems like fun! /it focuses on parts of speech. students fill in words, nouns, adjectives, verbs, etc, then it automatically creates the story.

TTCR: 2

Test Taker: Software designed to help with test taking skills. It provides computerized versions of tests and worksheets. This seems more geared to high school, possibly middle school.

TTCR: 1

Starfall: Cute educational site using and exploring phonics. There are many games. This looks like so much fun. Great site for kindergarten, first and second graders.

chapter 10 web site review

Integration ideas with spreadsheets:
Center for Engineering and Science Education-This was the most interesting site of the integration sites. CIESE was founded in 1998 for improving k-12 science and mathematics education with the use of technology. I was exposed to some awesome science and math hands on and interactive activities.

Spreadsheet software Options:
I like the google docs spreadsheet because I am already familiar with google's open source software and you can access it antime as long as you have internet connections.

Spreadsheet tutorials:
Microsoft excel modules- This is a great site for those of us who hace basically no clue about excel. it provides tutorials about basic excel tools and functions. It also has free downloads for different subjectmatter like graphic organizers and many different forms of timelines. It shows excellent examples of how to use Excel not just for calculating numbers.
Jan's Illustrated Computer Basics: Working with numbers- This site is also very useful in teaching Excel basics for beginners. This site is interactive and filled with pics and diagrams. i will definately revisit this site to learn more.

I intend to use word processing in my curriculum area by having my students work in the computer lab on writing art criticism essays. This will be more intriguing to students as they will have more choices of artwork on the internet and be more engaged using word processing tools.

Whats your impression web quest

Here is another fun web quest about Monet.
Searching the internet, I found many interesting web quest ideas. ...unfortunately, many were obsolete. I did find a few I could use as part of my elementary art curriculum. One on Rock Art was pretty interesting. Check it out. This would be a great activity for sixth grade as students begin studying ancient civilizations in the beginning of the year.

Digital Nation

It is a different world out there than it was 20 years ago. Multitasking is distracting, at least to me. It was interesting to see the students and professors opinions at MIT about reading and research. The big concern was that students write in paragraphs instead of writing one cohesive essay piece. Information is instantaneous. Students don't even have to read books anymore. They just google there information.

I found this interesting: Comparing virtual learning to loosing the knack for reading books with loosing the ability to memorize oral histories replaced by writing books. One person called it an evolutionary leap while others disagreed.

I was facinated by the way one business utilized second life for digital conferencing. how fun...and free.
